Confucius in the Cathedral

Cecilia Rike (Chinese and Political Science BA, 2025), curates a digital interactive wall exhibit on Pitt’s Chinese Nationality Room as part of her Archival Scholars Research Award. Focusing on the Room's use of Confucianism to promote Chinese national identity, Rike’s exhibit guides users through various sources from the 1930s, including Chinese-language fundraising materials, documentary photography, and a work of Chinese calligraphy donated by Chaing Kai-Shek (1887-1975), head of China’s Nationalist government. Rike’s project is co-advised by Runxiao Zhu, Head of the East Asian Library, and Michelle McCoy, Assistant Professor of Chinese Art, with support from the University Art Gallery.
