Jessica Gogan (PhD ‘16) was also awarded a Terra Foundation for American Art Research Travel Grant in 2020. This grant will support Jessica’s travel to USA to conduct research at the Getty Research Institute on the experimental art and pedagogic initiative Project Other Ways, developed by the artist Allan Kaprow and progressive educator Herbert Kohl in 1968-69, as a North American focal point for her book project in development on synchronous Latin American and global histories of radical art and pedagogy in the 1960s and 70s. The grant will support first hand engagement with American art historical resources, making connections with American scholars and curators, and conducting interviews with Herbert Kohl, additional Project Other Ways collaborators, and Kaprow scholars, with the goal of developing a collective critical framework to revisiting the radical art and pedagogy of the time period.
