Recently, the podcast “Picturing Knowledge” invited Joshua Ellenbogen to discuss the composite photographs of Francis Galton. Galton invented this technique whereby multiple portraits are combined into a final image out of an interest in “pictorial statistics,” which he believed could be applied to a society based on principles of eugenics.
