Ottoman Otranto: Southern Italian Artistic Responses to an Ottoman Invasion - Colloquium

Wednesday, September 23, 2020 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Speaker: Jake Eisensmith

This colloquium is a preview of research to be presented and continued at The Center for the Art and Architectural History of Port Cities during a residency at La Capraia in Naples. First it will focus on the visual repercussions of an Ottoman invasion of Otranto in 1480 as a mode of cross-cultural contact between Italy and the Ottoman Empire. In addition, it will advance Sicily and Naples as related sites of artistic response in Renaissance Southern Italy.
