History of Art and Architecture

"Dig Where You Stand" Colloquium

Wednesday, November 7, 2018 - 12:00pm

Carnegie Museum of Art - Please meet by the ticket desk.

Dig Where You Stand is an exhibition within the 57th Carnegie International. Curated by Koyo Kouoh, Dakar-based exhibition maker, the display considers histories of coloniality as represented through objects “mined” from the permanent collection of the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. HAA graduate students Emi Finkelstein, Rebecca Giordano, Paula Kupfer, Ellen Larson, and Katie Loney worked with Kouoh in the research, planning, artwork selection, and exhibition design of Dig Where You Stand. The collaboration originated through the joint invitation of HAA and the Carnegie Museum of Art to Koyo of visiting Pittsburgh in the spring of 2018, as well as her participation, during the visit, in the seminar “Contemporary Art on/and Display,” led by Jennifer Josten

Please join the HAA graduate students who participated this Wednesday, November 7 from 12-12:50pm for an introduction and walkthrough of Dig Where You Stand. We will meet by the CMOA ticket desk. RSVP to anarodcas@pitt.edu by Tuesday at 5pm.
