Architectural Studies Program and NOCMAT Design-Build Studio Retrospective, Spring 2019
The presentation will trace the development, construction, and impact of the Architectural Studies Program's first design-build studio. The product of this course was an installation in Benedum Plaza from April to July 2019 designed and built by architecture students using cardboard tubes plywood and locally harvested bamboo. The presentation will detail the design-build process and highlight design processes, materials research, and construction methods. The outcome of this studio was twofold: a better understanding of how non-conventional building materials function in Pittsburgh's climate and students with new skills and hands-on knowledge of the building process.
