CANCELLED : Visualizing Chicanx Presence in the Rural Midwest - Colloquium

Wednesday, March 2, 2022 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

** This event has been cancelled **

Speaker: Kale Serrato Doyen

An often overlooked geography in Latino Studies, the Midwest is home to significant and longstanding Latinx communities. In this presentation, Kale will share photographs and virtual maps from her own practice that document landscapes of her family's three generations in the Mid-Michigan region. By contextualizing the region's Mexican-American labor history through spatial analysis, Kale reveals the infrastructural phenomena that invisiblize people of color in rural areas; living either in densely concentrated and segregated neighborhoods or dispersed among predominantly-white communities.
