Created in 1972, the Art Bank of the Canada Council for the Arts is a collection of 17,000 artworks by 3,000 artists from Canada, making it the largest collection of Canadian contemporary art in the world. With its corporate art rental program and exhibitions and outreach program including loans to museums, the Art Bank supports and promotes the work of living artists throughout the different regions of Canada and introduces new audiences to Canadian art.

As a national art collection constantly in movement, artworks from the Art Bank are rented to private business and public organizations for their offices and lobbies.

Art consultant Isabelle Chartier will present the history of the Art Bank, its operating model, the processes of art acquisition. She will provide an overview of the types of clienteles who rent art for their offices and how the Art Bank balances the care of the collection while placing it in non-museums settings.
