Bones of the Earth

This paper will investigate the use of stone substrates in the Florentine Studio. Constructed and decorated in the early 1570, the Studiolo was at the time the largest cycle of paintings on stone. This paper looks to bring an ecological eye to answer why the patron and painters turned to stone substrates.
