The Architecture Learning Network is proud to present a unique opportunity for Architecture enthusiasts of all ages to explore, learn, and build together at ARCHITECTURE DAY 2019. The ALN partners will be hosting events, videos, walking tours, building activities, competitions, and more at the Frick Fine Arts Building at the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday October 12th, 2019. The day will close with a panel discussion on sustainability featuring a diverse group of policy makers, designers, and non-profits all working towards a more sustainable Pittsburgh.

This event is free and open to the public. Families and individuals of all ages are welcome to learn and explore.

  • Resources will be available for parents and high school students interested in pursuing architecture as a career, through the generosity of the ALN partners at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture, University of Pittsburgh Architectural Studies Program, and Chatham University Interior Architecture Program. [10:00-11:00am in the Frick Fine Arts Building classrooms]

  • Our youngest architecture explorers can build architecture and urban landscapes with the Center for Architecture Explorations and Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. They can build and draw, inspired by nature with the educators from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater. [9:00am - 12:30pm & 1:00 - 4:00pm in the Frick Fine Arts Building cloister, with a short break for lunch and exploring the area]

  • Hands-on activities based in art, technology, and sustainability will be ongoing throughout the day for all participants, brought to you by Assemble, a community space for arts and technology. [morning and afternoon activities, 9:00-11:00am & 1:00-4:00pm in the Frick Fine Arts Building cloister]

  • Middle and high school students can take on design and building challenges facilitated by the Chatham and Pitt architecture educators. [building challenge in the Frick Fine Arts Building classrooms, 11:00am - 12:30pm]

  • Ongoing tours of the architecture in the Oakland neighborhood will be open to all, provided by Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. [tours every 20 minutes, 11:00am - 12:30pm]

  • Film and video on the subject of architecture, sustainability, and the work that the ALN does within our community will be playing throughout the morning in the Frick Fine Arts Building auditorium

  • The afternoon will feature a panel discussion in the auditorium, touching on sustainability in architecture at the public policy, institutional, neighborhood, and personal scales.
