Undergraduate Achievements
2006-2007
- Adam Amrhein (HAA 2007) won the 2007 John F. Haskins Award for Academic Excellence in Art History.
- Kate Barbato (HAA 2007) is teaching special education in Philadelphia through the Teach for America program.
- Diane Bossart (AS major) is the education manager for the Green Building Alliance in Pittsburgh.
- Kristin Brown (HAA 2007) was accepted into graduate programs at the Pratt Institute, George Washington University, Florida State University, the University of Florida, and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She will attend VCU in the fall as a student in the interior design MA program.
Kristin received the Blue Gold award for "representing the student-athlete ideal." She was featured in the April 29, 2007 issue of the Pitt Chronicle. This summer, she qualified for the 2008 Olympic trials in swimming. - Thomas d'Arville (HAA 2007) was accepted into the Drexel University College of Medicine.
- Ellen Durning (HAA 2006) will complete the MBA program at Duquesne University.
- Allison Frymoyer (HAA 2007) has been accepted into Carnegie Mellon's Master of Arts Management program for fall 2007. She was awarded an MAM merit-based scholarship.
- Jeff Grossman (AS 2007) took a job with Koch and Wilson Architects in New Orleans, LA.
- Jennifer Hickey (HAA 2007) Jennifer is attending New York University with a full scholarship in the MA in conservation program.
- Katherine Keller (AS 2007) will attend Kent State's Graduate School of Architecture and Environmental Design.
- Jamie Leonardi (HAA 2007) was accepted into Carnegie Mellon's Master of Arts Management program for fall 2007. She was awarded an MAM merit-based scholarship and a Regional Leaders Scholarship.
Jamie presented her paper "Sex, Serial Murder and Sensationalism: The Lustmord Works of Otto Dix and George Grosz" at the West Virginia University Art History Symposium, April 21, 2007.
Jamie won a special commendation from the Faculty of Frick Fine Arts for her accomplishments. - Nancy Luckett (HAA 2007) is employed as a project manager for Lami Grubb Architects in Pittsburgh.
- Mark Mangini (HAA 2007) accepted a position in the eductation department at the Mattress Factory.
- Lindsay Ossler (HAA 2007) will attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and study in the Interior Design program.
- Lauren Owens (AS 2006) works in the marketing department of CORE architecture + design in Washington, DC.
- Kelsey Poor (HAA 2007) will attend the University of Pittsburgh School of Education for the MEd program in secondary education.
- Jacqueline Reinhard (AS 2007) was continue her education at the State University of New York at Buffalo - MArch program.
- Nick Seftas (AS 2007) was begin the MArch program at the Ohio State University.
- Don Simpson (HAA 2007) was accepted into the MA/PhD program in History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh School of Arts and Sciences.
Don won a special commendation from the Faculty of Frick Fine Arts. - Darin Stine (HAA 2006) will attend Syracuse University for the MA program in Renaissance art history.
- Katie Surma (HAA 2007) was accepted into the Duquesne University School of Law.
- Ben Tropp (AS 2007) will attend the State University of New York at Buffalo - MArch program.
- Zack Walters (AS 2007) completed a semester with DIS (Denmark International Study Abroad in Copenhagen), a highly competitive, English-based architecture and design study program.
- Chris Wetty (AS 2007) is a project assistant at MJM Associate Architects, based in Dick's Sporting Goods corporate office in Pittsburgh.
- Felicite Zimmermann (HAA 2007) was accepted into Pitt's School of Information Sciences. Zimmermann will obtain a Master of Library and Information Sciences degree (MLIS) with a specialization in Preservation Management.
2005-2006
- Jamie Davis won the 2005 Friends of Frick Fine Arts Writing Award, given to the best undergradute research paper in HAA, for her paper on C.D. Friedrich's Chasseur in the Forest, written under the supervision of Gretchen Bender.
- Ellen Durning was accepted into the internship program (Summer 2006) at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Sante Fe, New Mexico.
- Christopher Guignon (Architectural Studies, 2005) was accepted into the M.Arch program at MIT with a scholarship.
- Meghan Krikorian was accepted into Drexel University's Creative Arts Therapy Program.
- Nancy Luckett received a $4000 scholarship form the Nationality Rooms to travel to France (Summer 2006).
- Meghan Meyers (Architectural Studies, 2005) was admitted into the M.Arch program at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
- Sara Reed (HAA 2006) was accepted into the Masters program in Historic Preservation at the Savannah College of Art and Design with a scholarship.
- Curt Riegelnegg (HAA 2006) delivered a talk on his senior honors thesis paper (written under the supervision of Barbara McCloskey) in early April on Paul Klee and Northern Africa at "Europe: East and West," an Undergraduate Research Symposium sponseored by the Center for West European Studies and the Center for Russian and East European Studies.
He is the winner of the 2006 Haskins award given to the most distinguished graduating senior in the History of Art and Architecture Department, and the winner of the 2005 Ossip Undergraduate Writing Award (in Research Writing) for his essay, "Direction and Dictation in The Beheading of St. John the Baptist," written under the supervision of Prof. Ann Harris. - Emily Schantz (HAA 2006) won a special commendation from the faculty of History of Art and Architecture for her accomplishments as a graduating senior.
- Ryan Simmons participated in the Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research Poster fair on April 3, 2006, presenting his senior thesis work on Michael Heizer, which is being supervised by Kirk Savage. He also delivered a paper on Turner's Slave Ship and its American reception to the University of West Virginia Undergraduate Research Symposium.
