Veglia
A veglia, or vigil, was a late-evening entertainment which contained orchestral accompaniments, ballets, jousts and singing.

Pantalone, or Cassandra, is a sixteenth-century copy of the Venetian Pantalone.
il Capitano
Il Capitano, or the lover, belongs to the tradition of the innamorato rather than that of the Capitano regardless of the designation of 'captain.'
Zani
Zani, or Scapin, is generally believed to have originated in Milan, though his ancestry is uncertain.

- This is the first print of a series of fifty etchings. Although this frontispiece gives the date 1616, most historians believe that the series manifests a style Callot developed later in his career and that the final plates were etched in Nancy around 1622.
